It’s time to crown a second singles champion at the 2026 US Open. The men’s singles winner on Sunday will be a first-timer as No. 1 Alexander Zverev and No. 8 Ben Shelton face off on Sunday afternoon at Arthur Ashe Stadium. No. 2 Elena Rybakina took down No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 on Saturday to hoist the first trophy of the tournament.
It’s the second time Zverev has made the US Open final, while Shelton is competing for the first Grand Slam title of his career. Zverev is looking to cap off a career year after earning his first Grand Slam title at the French Open. Shelton, meanwhile, got knocked out in the second round at the French Open before turning his season around on the hard courts in New York, pulling off the biggest upset of his career in dispatching No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set tiebreak.
A win on Sunday for Shelton would put an end to the long drought of American men winning a Grand Slam title, which dates back to Andy Roddick at the 2003 US Open. Shelton is also seeking to become just the third Black man to ever win a Grand Slam title, joining Arthur Ashe and Yannick Noah.
