A Harrison County man has been charged in connection with the death of his 5-month-old child.

Braxton Cole, 22, was held Sunday in the Harrison County Jail on $100,000 bond, charged with injury to a child with intentional serious bodily injury by omission, a first-degree felony.

At about 11:40 a.m. Aug. 8, 911 dispatchers received a call requesting EMS at a residence near Harleton, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

“The caller reported that an … infant had been found unresponsive and was cold to the touch. At approximately 11:41 a.m., an additional call was received advising that CPR was in progress. Harleton Volunteer Fire Department and Christus Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the residence,” the sheriff’s office said. “While assessing the infant, emergency personnel observed markings on the child that raised concerns regarding the child’s condition. Law enforcement was notified, and Harrison County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies responded to the residence and hospital.”

The infant was transported to a Longview medical center and later pronounced dead.

An investigation later found probable cause to issue an arrest warrant for Cole, and he was arrested Sept. 4 at his residence without incident, the sheriff’s office said.
