SEATTLE — An investigation is underway after a stabbing victim boarded the Link light rail Sunday afternoon in Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood.
According to the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), Sound Transit Deputies initially responded to reports of a man bleeding from his torso at the Symphony Station at Third Ave. around 4:30 p.m.
Firefighters then arrived and treated the approximately 30-year-old man, before paramedics transported him to Harborview Medical Center — where he remains in critical condition as of Sunday night.
Seattle Police, who now have jurisdiction over the investigation, stated that the victim was reportedly stabbed in Occidental Square within the Pioneer Square neighborhood, before walking to the nearby light rail stop and waiting for a train.
Sound Transit shared a security camera image of the man sitting on a bench, visibly bleeding through his shirt at the Pioneer Square station, before he boarded a northbound train toward Symphony station.
At the Symphony station, the 1 and 2 line service was stopped for about 20 minutes while the victim was treated and transported, and KCSO cleared the scene.
As of the SPD’s last update, the suspect remains at large with no description given. Police also did not say that there was a threat to the public.
The reported stabbing took place a few blocks from the nearest active city CCTV camera at 3rd Avenue and Yesler Way, while other city CCTV cameras that are installed throughout Pioneer Square, remain turned off since the end of the FIFA World Cup in early-July, as an ongoing audit determines the security of their data from federal authorities and their efficacy.
