Water customers in Cary and Morrisville are experiencing low water pressure on Monday after a 30-inch water main break occurred in the early hours of the morning.
A photo from the WRAL Breaking News Tracker at the scene of the water main break along N.C. Highway 55 near Wade Drive shows a large chunk missing from the ground, with soil and concrete covering the road.
The town reported N.C. Highway 55 is closed in both directions
between the Jenks Road/Old Jenks Road intersection and the Lewey
Drive/Turner Creek Road intersection. N.C. 55 is expected to reopen to traffic by 7 a.m.
Customers affected by the water main break are advised to boil their water vigorously for one minute before using it for drinking, cooking or brushing teeth. Bottled water can also be used.
“Low water pressure can create conditions that may allow bacteria to enter the water system,” the town of Cary wrote. “No harmful bacteria have been detected in the water system.”
Before 3 a.m., multiple viewers wrote to WRAL News, reporting low water pressure or no water in the town of Cary.
