D2C fashion and accessories brand Theater has raised Rs 75 crore in a Series A funding round led by investment firm Niveshaay, with participation from new investor Physis Capital and existing investor Prath Ventures.
The funding values Theater at about Rs 410 crore on a post-money basis.
The startup plans to use the fresh capital to expand its offline retail presence and invest in brand-building initiatives, including marketing campaigns and celebrity partnerships.
Founded in 2021 by Sarthak Aggarwal, Vikram Jain, Karan Jain and Shruti Aggarwal, Theater offers products including footwear, stockings, bags and perfumes.
The startup positions itself as a design-led, mass-premium fashion brand, targeting consumers seeking products between mass-market offerings and imported luxury labels.
“We started Theater because we couldn’t find beautiful, well-made accessories in India that weren’t either a luxury import or a compromise,” co-founder and CEO Sarthak Aggarwal said.
“So we decided to build them ourselves – made in India and priced for a generation that cares deeply about design but doesn’t want to pay luxury prices,” he said.
Theater plans to combine its digital-first business with a growing physical retail presence as it seeks to expand its reach across India.
Co-founder Vikram Jain said the company’s growth showed that consumers were willing to pay for differentiated products rather than make purchasing decisions solely on discounts.
“We’ve heard for years that design doesn’t scale, and that Indian consumers will always choose discounts over differentiation. Our growth has told us otherwise. Consumers are willing to pay for products that have a point of view, and Theater is proof that taste can be a business model,” Jain said.
Niveshaay founder Arvind Kothari said the investment was driven by Theater’s focus on design-led products in categories where organised options remain limited.
“At Niveshaay, we back category-creating brands that address clear market gaps and have strong consumer pull. Footwear, stockings and bags remain largely unorganised, with limited design-led options for the aspirational Indian woman. Theater has built exactly that, with evergreen, design-led products that consumers have discovered organically,” Kothari said.
The startup recorded operating revenue of Rs 33.35 crore in the financial year ending March 2025, about 2.37 times its revenue in the previous year.
The latest funding round follows a $1.5 million pre-Series A round led by Prath Ventures in September 2024.
Theater said the new investment will support its efforts to build a wider offline presence while continuing to grow its digital-first business.
