MITCHELL — A commanding effort saw the Mitchell High School girls tennis team sweep doubles play and claim five of six singles flights, delivering an 8-1 dual victory over Huron on Thursday at Hitchcock Park.
With the win, the Kernels improved to 14-4 in duals this season, including a 10-0 mark at home.
Mitchell dominated doubles play, taking straight-set wins at all three flights and not dropping more than two games in any of the six sets.
At Flight 1, Katie Morgan and Ava Prunty notched a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Say Glay and Chalie Sah. Meanwhile, Mia Larson and Elliot Smith defeated Idella Meyer and Taylor Sorben at Flight 2, as Charlee Cimpl and Taryn Bultje took down Brooke Hunter and Avery Ashbaugh at Flight 3. Both matches ended with 6-1, 6-1 scores.

Morgan was a top flight double winner, beating Glay 6-2, 6-1 at Flight 1 singles, as well. Larson dropped only two games, a team-best, in a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Meyer at Flight 2 singles. After a tight first set at Flight 4, Smith sailed past Sorben 7-5, 6-0. Cimpl topped Harper Weisenburger 6-3, 6-3 at Flight 5, and Bultje rounded out the effort by downing Ramsey Anderson 6-2, 6-3 at Flight 6.
Huron (6-9) earned its lone match win of the day at Flight 3 singles. Though Prunty claimed the first set, Sah rebounded to secure the second and force a 10-point tiebreaker, which Sah won 10-5.
Mitchell has two more home duals on its slate for the season, first hosting Watertown on Tuesday, Sept. 22, then Brandon Valley on Friday, Sept. 25.
