BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Friday night kicked off a wicked weekend of events in downtown Bangor ahead of Stephen King’s 79th birthday Monday.
To start the chilling celebrations, The Emporium Spooky Goods and More hosted a book release party and reading.
Still Floating; 40 Years of Pennywise, edited by Tom Deady, features 33 authors, artists and others offering personal insights and deep dives on the novel, its adaptions and the cultural phenomenon It has become.
Ushering in the 2nd Annual Stephen King Birthday Block Party, The Emporium’s owners say the weekend is a great way to celebrate the king of all things creepy and his impact on Bangor and beyond.
“The King community, as I’m learning, it’s a very tight-knit group of people. You have people from all around the country that worked on this book together,” explains Kaddie Sharpe, co-owner of The Emporium. “They’re discovering downtown Bangor, AKA Derry, Maine. So it’s a really great way for folks to come from all around the country and really all around the world to discover downtown Bangor and downtown Derry.“
Saturday night, The Emporium continues celebrating Stephen King with an all-day short film festival, all inspired by King short stories that he lovingly calls “Dollar Babies.”
Downtown Bangor has a jam-packed schedule all weekend for King’s birthday, featuring a block party Saturday at 2 Feet Brewing and a Pet Sematary pet parade on Sunday.
