Alyssa Lang received a significant promotion this season as part of ESPN’s college football coverage, but was not on air Friday or Saturday of Week 3.
Fortunately, Lang is doing okay.
As she explained in a post on her X account, Lang was in a “scary accident” on Thursday evening that left her with bruising and a concussion. She took the week off to rest and recover.
“I was involved in a scary accident late Thursday night when someone slammed into my car while driving on the highway,” Lang wrote. “Thankfully, I was very lucky – walked away with just some bruises and a concussion. Resting this weekend so that I can be back soon.
“Will use this as a reminder for folks to please drive safely and pay attention, because things can change in an instant.”

After Matt Barrie became a weekly play-by-play fixture on ESPN and anchor of SEC Nation on-site each Saturday, Lang was promoted to replace him on studio coverage. Lang hosts ESPN and ESPN2 games on Friday nights and Saturdays, when her coverage airs alongside the main ABC studio show.
Zubin Mehenti and Kevin Connors stepped into the ABC and ESPN college football studio show chairs for this week in Lang’s absence.
Lang came up in local news in Columbia, SC, and on the SEC Network, where she has worked since 2018.
