Concrete barriers collapsed on Route 53 and shut down Palatine Road on Sunday in Palatine, Illinois State Police said.
PALATINE Ill. (WLS) — A partial collapse in the northwest suburbs Sunday has caused drivers to be detoured in Palatine, officials said.

Damage could be seen as concrete barriers on Illinois Route 53 dislodged and fell onto Palatine Road below, closing the street.
There were no reports of any injuries, but Palatine Road was closed near Winston Drive.
“Palatine Road is currently closed in both directions in the area of Route 53 due to a traffic hazard,” Palatine police said in an update. “Palatine Police have the roadway shut down at Palatine Road and Winston Drive. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.”
Illinois State Police confirmed the collapse, and said crews were expected to work for several hours Sunday evening to replace the concrete barrier as the road remains closed.
