KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Nearly a month after the Kansas City Royals signed him, former All-Star pitcher Tony Gonsolin is joining the Major League roster.
Gonsolin was signed on Aug. 13 to a MLB deal and placed on the injured list as he continued his recovery from right elbow surgery. On Aug. 25, he was sent to Triple-A Omaha to begin a rehab assignment.
Tuesday, the Royals announced that Gonsolin was being reinstated from the injured list and called up to the MLB roster. In a corresponding move, right-handed reliever Spencer Bivens was optioned to the Arizona Complex League with minor league seasons complete.
Gonsolin, a former first-round pick of the Dodgers, was an All-Star in 2022 when he went 16-1 with a 2.14 ERA across 24 starts with Los Angeles.
The right-hander last pitched in the MLB on June 4, 2025, for the Dodgers.
He joins the Royals as they begin a six-game homestand Tuesday night to conclude the 2026 season.
