Three favorites and a first-time winner were crowned as the Class 3A and 4A individual state champions on Saturday. Buffalo’s Addison Bettinger repeated as the 3A girls’ golf state champ. Tate Nichols from Wheatland earned his third straight 3A boys’ golf state title. Class 4A featured two first-time winners. Laramie’s Addie Plassmeyer won the girls’ championship, and Jaxon Burr from Campbell County topped the boys’ division. The 2026 Wyoming High School Golf State Championships were held last Friday and Saturday. The Cottonwood Country Club in Torrington hosted the 3A championships, while Purple Sage Golf Course in Evanston hosted the 4A championships.

WYOPREPS RECAPS THE 3A AND 4A GOLF STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN 2026

Bettinger won the 3A girls’ crown by two strokes. She fired a 79 in the first round last Friday and opened up a five-stroke lead. Addison carded an 83 in the final round last Saturday and finished with a two-day total of 162. Wheatland’s Haylie Nelson was the runner-up at 164. Jaylen Kaufman, also from Wheatland, took third with a two-day total of 173.

Nelson and Kaufman led the Bulldogs to their second consecutive 3A girls’ golf team championship. Wheatland finished with a team score of 516 and won by 79 shots. Buffalo took second, and Powell was third.

Nichols won his 3A boys’ title by five shots. He had rounds of 68 and 71 and finished with a two-day total of 139. Powell’s Cody Fisher took second place, and Wheatland’s Jacob Miller finished third.

Wheatland rolled to a third straight 3A boys’ team title. Their team score was 595. The Bulldogs’ top four golfer finished inside the top eight. Wheatland won by 32 shots. Lander was second, and Douglas placed third.

Class 4A had bad weather and delays on Friday, then better weather on Saturday

The weather impacted the 4A championships in Evanston. Rough conditions limited the first round to only nine holes last Friday. The final round was 18 holes on Saturday, so they played 27 holes instead of 36.

Addie Plassmeyer won the 4A girls’ title by one shot. The Laramie senior became the third female in school history to win it all. Plassmeyer opened with a 40 in the first round. She came back with an 82 in the second round and finished at 122. Cheyenne Central’s Bella Beach was the runner-up. Kloe Romo from Kelly Walsh took third place.

Romo led three Trojans in the top 10. That helped Kelly Walsh win the girls’ team title with a score of 390. That was 3 shots better than Thunder Basin, who took second. Laramie came in third in the team standings.

In the boys’ division, Campbell County senior Jaxon Burr reached the top spot. He rallied from a one-shot deficit after an opening-round 35. Burr shot 69 on Saturday and won by four shots.

Thunder Basin climbed to the top of 4A boys’ golf for the first time in program history. The Bolts won the title at 457. That was two shots ahead of Riverton, and Laramie finished third.

Class 2A will hold its championships on Tuesday and Wednesday at Purple Sage Golf Course in Evanston.
