The city’s recreation services department is offering its ninth annual STEAM program through September. In the words of city officials:

>> This engaging event invites children aged 5-12 to dive into a month-long exploration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) through a variety of exciting programs offered citywide.

Throughout September, young explorers can partake in a series of interactive and educational activities hosted by the Children’s Science Explorium, Boca Raton Public Library, and the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. Each venue offers unique challenges that will inspire curiosity and learning.

Get Your STEAM Passport

Starting in September, families can visit any participating location to pick up a STEAM through September Passport or download it online. This passport serves as a guide, listing the challenges and opportunities for participants to earn a stamp for each completed challenge across the five STEAM categories. Collect all five stamps to receive a special goodie bag featuring swag from all three facilities. Most programs require advanced registration, and some have a registration fee.

Here’s a glimpse of the thrilling activities planned each week:

Week 1: September 1-6

Bugio (S – Science Stamp): Explore and complete the bug bingo challenge.

Bug Hotel Math Challenge (M – Mathematics Stamp): Discover the strength of ants at the Children’s Science Explorium.

High Tech Trees (T – Technology Stamp): Uncover ecological secrets at the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center.

STEM Backpacks (E – Engineering Stamp): Check out fun, interactive kits at the library.

Explorium Science Squad (E – Engineering Stamp): Participate in electrifying experiments.

Week 2: September 7-13

Make and Take (S – Science Stamp): Build a water powered car at the Children’s Science Explorium.

STEM in Action – Blast Off! (E – Engineering Stamp): Engage with aerodynamics at the Downtown Library.

After Hours Tour (S – Science Stamp): Enjoy a family tour at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center.

Week 3: September 14-20

Eyes to the Skies (T – Technology Stamp): Stargaze with a professional telescope at the Children’s Science Explorium.

Friday Night at the Museum (E – Engineering Stamp): Experience an exclusive museum night at the Explorium.

International Coastal Cleanup (T – Technology Stamp): Participate in a global cleanup effort at Spanish River Park.

Week 4: September 21-27

The Lab: Laser Art Canvas (A – Art Stamp): Explore creative projects at the Children’s Science Explorium.

Education Explorations – BioBlitz Bonanza! (A/M – Art/Mathematics Stamp): Discover the beauty of nature and pollinators.

Week 5: September 28-30

STEM in Action – The Science of Goo (E – Engineering Stamp):Unravel the science of slime at the Downtown Library.
