Kalshi Inc. has voluntarily disabled its prediction market content on three California tribes’ lands, it told a federal court Thursday after recently receiving an adverse appellate ruling.
The action, Kalshi’s first voluntary “geofencing,” resolves the next steps in the tribes’ case for now, following the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit’s approval Sept. 16 of a preliminary injunction sought by the tribes. The appeals court panel held Sept. 16 that sports prediction markets amount to sports betting, a form of gaming that’s not authorized on the California tribes’ lands.
