A Malaysian internet celebrity once known online as “Genting’s little queen” and famous for promoting gambling is now working as a Grab driver after reportedly losing his fortune and racking up about RM1 million (S$313,000) in debt.
Arron Lim, 48, recently shared on his Facebook page that he has been working as ride-hailing service driver for the past eight months.
However, he said his earnings have only been enough to cover his basic living expenses and that he has yet to find a way to recover financially.
Working up to 12 hours per day, he said he earns a maximum of RM200 which to him, was “harmful to his health”.
Moreover, he felt that it prevented him from being able to save money.
Lim had previously been vocal about gambling and promoted the idea that “gambling brings wealth”, according to Shin Min Daily News.
He subsequently lost his fortune and fell into significant debt, after which he reportedly went silent online for over a year.
From lavish meals to discounted food
In the video, Lim reflected on how his spending habits had changed after his financial losses.
He said he used to spend freely and frequently dine at high-end restaurants without worrying about the cost.
Now, he said he tries to save as much money as possible, including waiting until after 8.30pm to queue for discounted food.
Lim also described his current circumstances as a struggle to make ends meet, saying that his income is only sufficient for “survival”.
With the big drop of income from his previous RM100,000 per month, he experienced what he felt to be the “lowest point of his life”.
The internet celebrity found himself reliant on medication to fall asleep, suffering from insomnia and emotional distress.
