DECATUR, Ala. (WAFF) – A new statue is up in the city, courtesy of the River Clay Fine Arts Festival.
Leaders unveiled the sculpture at Walden Oaks Park, depicting three sandhill cranes in different stages of life.
Created by Athens Forge, the birds are surrounded by 10 cattails, symbolizing the first decade of the art festival.
“This day has been a year in the making, and it has been a joy and full of excitement to work with Athens Forge to create this amazing sculpture that is specific to Decatur. It’s entitled Cranes 2026,” a leader said. “They have worked tirelessly for weekends and weekends and weekends to help us give this back to the community.”
The permanent fixture kicks off the countdown for River Clay, which takes place Oct. 24 and 25.
