MISSOULA, Mont. — Two people sought medical treatment after an encounter with a raccoon in a Pocatello neighborhood Tuesday, according to Idaho Fish and Game.

Officials said an 86-year-old man was retrieving his mail when a raccoon moved toward him, biting and scratching his legs and forearm. Another person who came to his aid was also scratched.

Fish and Game euthanized the raccoon and submitted it for testing. The animal tested negative for rabies, while other test results are pending.

Officials are reminding residents to keep their distance from raccoons and other wildlife and to seek medical advice if they are bitten or scratched.
