BREAKING: I-84 closed between La Grande and Baker City

UNION COUNTY — A crash on Interstate 84 on Monday, Sept. 28, near North Powder has shut the freeway.

The westbound lanes of I-84 are closed between milepost 265 in La Grande and and milepost 302 in Baker City, according to Oregon Department of Transportation. The crash happened near milepost 278 around 8 miles west of North Powder. The westbound lanes between Baker City and Ontario are closed to commercial trucks as of 9:30 a.m.

ODOT announced the closure could last into the early afternoon.

Semi-trucks must stop in Ontario so that truck parking in Baker City does not overfill, according to ODOT, while passenger cars can continue onto Baker City before stopping.

U.S. 30 northbound is closed to interstate traffic between North Powder and Baker City, according to TripCheck. OR-245 is closed for I-84 travelers in both directions from milepost 1-36. These routes are open to local traffic only.
