WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ore. (KATU) — Residents in Bethany, Ore., are being warned after a bobcat was reportedly caught on video in a residential neighborhood.

The “large cat” was recorded on NW Kaiser Road near NW Springville Road, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office shared the video of the encounter on its Facebook page. Though a positive identification was not made, the sheriff’s office said the animal is believed to be a bobcat.

Authorities have reached out to the Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife about the sighting.

There have not been any reports of people or pets being attacked.

Bobcat sightings in unincorporated Washington County is not uncommon, the sheriff’s office said.

Because of the sighting, officials are urging residents to consider some best practices for living around bobcats, including fencing and sheltering livestock; feeding pets indoors; keeping pets indoors at night and on a leash and under your control when walking in wild areas.
