Karolina Pliskova will not play any more matches in 2026 after calling an end to her season.
Pliskova is a former world number one and two-time Grand Slam finalist, but she has faced many injury struggles in the last couple of years. After tearing ligaments and tendons in her left ankle, Pliskova underwent two surgeries and was out of action for over a year.
Since returning to competition outside the top 1000, Pliskova has made huge strides back up the rankings and after reaching the Madrid Open quarter-finals and the Nottingham Open semi-finals this year, the 34-year-old is now back up to the world number 51.
However, after Pliskova lost in the second round of the US Open, she has confirmed she will not play another match in 2026.
Karolina Pliskova releases statement as she ends her 2026 season
Pliskova has released a statement on her social media to reveal that she will not be part of the Asian Swing, as she explained that she has some ‘small things’ that need sorting.
There have been some suggestions that Pliskova could be retiring soon, but her message on Instagram implies that she is planning to continue competing on the WTA Tour in 2027.
Pliskova wrote, “After everything my body has been through over the last months, I have a few small things that need some time to heal properly. Nothing serious, but right now it makes sense to give my body the time it needs instead of pushing through it.
“Of course I’m disappointed to miss these last tournaments of the year. Hope to see all my Asian fans next time. Thank you for all the support this year. See you soon.”
Pliskova ends her 2026 season with a 62.9% win percentage, having won 22 of her 35 matches this year. She is not the only WTA player who has already ended her season, with Amanda Anisimova also taking a break until 2027.
