TROY, N.Y. (WRGB) — The bull moose that was captured in Troy on Tuesday has been euthanized.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation said in a statement that staff monitored the animal through the night while trying to relocate it to the wild. However, the animal’s condition deteriorated.

The moose has now been taken to a Wildlife Health Unit lab for a full necropsy.

The DEC says bull moose are entering breeding season, and moose can cover large distances on their own looking for possible mates.

DEC asks that you report any moose sightings to DEC Region 4 Wildlife at 518-357-2355 or email wildlife.r4@dec.ny.gov.
