LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — Arkansans have an opportunity to safely get rid of their unused, unwanted or expired medications later this month.

That’s because Arkansas’ fall Drug Take Back Day is scheduled for Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Law enforcement agencies will host collection drives across the state to give people the opportunity to safely and securely dispose of their medications and prescriptions, including opioids.

Flushing medications down the toilet or tossing them in the trash can can pollute our waterways and put our families and friends at risk,” Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said. “Arkansas Drug Take Back Day provides convenient and responsible alternatives.

More than 342 tons of unwanted medication have been disposed of since the program first launched in spring 2010.
