As expected, the Pittsburgh Penguins activated Ben Kindel for their Saturday night home game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Kindel, 19, practiced with the team in each of the last two practices as a full participant. In preseason games, he centered a line with Bryan Rust and Andrei Kuzmenko, but all three missed the first game of the season.
Rust remains on injured reserve, but Kuzmenko also rejoined the team Friday after returning from Russia, where he was dealing with the death of his father. At practice Friday, coach Dan Muse had Kindel centering a modified fourth line with Kuzmenko and Connor Dewar in order to keep the surprisingly successful third line with Hendrix Lapierre centering Ville Koivunen and Filip Hallander together.
However, Muse may have to make more decisions than anticipated, as Blake Lizotte said he is ready to return to the lineup despite being injured during the first game of the season on Wednesday.
To make room for Kindel, the Penguins designated forward David Gustafsson as non-roster and placed him on waivers.
