Gulf coast bracing for life-threatening storm surge, strong winds

Conditions in Gulf Shores, Alabama, are deteriorating by the hour as Hurricane Isaias approaches. The outer bands are bringing strong, tropical storm-force winds.

Those winds are coming in from the northeast, and with the rain, it’s like getting slapped right in the face. It’s just so strong.

CNN meteorologist Brandon Miller says that this coastal community is getting 56-mile-per-hour wind gusts, and that’s only going to get worse in the hours before landfall.

For now, the winds are actually pushing the storm surge away from the coast.

Miller also said that after the eyewall passes, there will be very little rain, but these tremendous winds will stick around, with 56-mile-per-hour gusts. This is enough to topple trees and cause major power outages, and this is why Gulf Shores is taking this so seriously.

They have instituted a curfew that’s set to start in two hours. They definitely shut down the bridges leading in and out hours ago.

They don’t want people out here in these conditions.

I’ve been in so many hurricanes, but probably not as close to where they’re making landfall.

The mayor was hoping people would take this seriously, and based on everything I’ve seen, it’s a ghost town out here. I think people have gotten the message. No more time for preparation. It’s time to hunker down and ride this out.
