HINDS COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – The president of Hinds Community College has announced that Eagle Ridge Golf Course is closing.
President Dr. Stephen Vacik says that, after careful review, the college has made the difficult decision to end golf course operations.
“This decision was not made lightly. We recognize the important role the course has played in our community and understand that many of you will be disappointed by this announcement. We share those feelings,” Vacik said in a statement.
The college says the course requires significant investment, and it wants to prioritize student success and long-term sustainability.
“While the golf course has served as a meaningful community asset,” Vacik stated. “It requires a significant institutional investment, and we have reached a point where we must prioritize resources toward areas that more directly support student success and the long-term sustainability of the college.”
Vacik says that the decision to close the course is not a “reflection of the course’s patrons, staff, or the many individuals who have worked tirelessly to support and maintain it over the years.”
Vacik says that the decision reflects difficult realities and the college’s responsibility to position itself for future success.
“We are sincerely grateful to everyone who has supported the golf course through memberships, tournaments, events and countless rounds of golf,” said Vacik.
Vacik says that it is the school’s plan to determine how to best utilize the land to benefit the community.
“Thank you for your understanding, your support, and your many years of partnership with the college,” Vacik said.
There has not been an announcement on when the course is set to close its doors.
