One word best describes the Pittsburgh Steelers:

Chaos.

It’s a flawed team that needs to “clean our own house,” as Mike McCarthy said. (I wonder if McCarthy knew what he was getting into, or if he was too eager to coach his hometown team.)

Chaos.

Let me count the ways:

• Joey Porter Jr. faked injury to lie his way out of Pittsburgh. The Steelers validated his lie. It hijacked the season.

• Jalen Ramsey reportedly advised Porter on how to achieve his exit, calling on his own experience moving from Jacksonville to Los Angeles in 2019. Ramsey thus sabotaged his own team. (Ramsey denies it: “Y’all are crazy lol.”)

• Ramsey spoke about a “disconnect” between players and coaches. Will Ramsey try to finagle a move to a contender before the NFL’s Nov. 10 trade deadline? Detroit is allegedly interested. (Ramsey backtracked: “I rock wit’ the coaches.”)

• Cameron Heyward said that fans burning Porter jerseys should “grow up.” He’s right, but why fuel the angst?

• Heyward whines on the regular about not getting paid enough. T.J. Watt likely thinks his top career achievement is making $1 million more on average annual value than Myles Garrett. Score gets kept via income, not winning. (That’s true of most athletes.)

• Ex-Steeler Chris Hoke said linebacker Patrick Queen “just gave up” on several plays at Cleveland: “Hey, I’m not gonna throw my body in there.” Video seems to confirm. Queen is in the final season of his contract. Is he making business decisions?

• Aaron Rodgers is yelling at McCarthy.

• Heyward and Watt are yelling at defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.

• Omar Khan isn’t qualified to be a GM. He’s a bean counter. The Steelers haven’t had a legit No. 2 wideout since trading Diontae Johnson more than two years ago. The depth chart has holes, but Khan took a kick returner in the fourth round of this year’s draft.

• It makes zero sense to employ a 42-year-old quarterback to “win now,” then run off your 26-year-old top-level cover cornerback, arguably your most important defensive player. (By the way, when does the omnipresent philosophy of “win now” actually translate into, you know, winning now?)

Chaos.

Fans seem angry. Ready to turn.

Are the Steelers going to win nine or 10 games and stumble into the playoffs?

That could happen. The NFL isn’t very good.

But the Steelers aren’t likeable. Haven’t been for the best part of a decade.

No fun, my babe, no fun.

Chaos.
