I would not call myself a wildlife photographer, but I do enjoy it from time to time.

On this particular Saturday, I headed out to test out some new gear and see what I could find. Once I got to Middle Creek Wildlife Management area, I saw these two birds chasing each other. I locked my focus on them and snapped away to find the perfect frame.

At the time, I didn’t realize what was going on. When I got home and uploaded the photos to my computer, however, I realized I captured a great blue heron chasing a great egret in an attempt to steal the fish out of its mouth. (The little cherry on top is the fish surfacing in the bottom left-hand corner of the photo.)

THE METHOD: Taken with the Canon R6 Mark II and 700mm (500mm F/4 + 1.4x) at F/5.6, 1/1000th, and 1250 ISO.
