Earlier this week, former Michigan State basketball star Gabe Brown signed a new contract overseas to continue his professional career in Europe, and now another Spartan has done the same.
Brown has his new contract, and now Kenny Goins has signed one.
Goins has spent the last seven seasons overseas, and he’s played for seven different teams since graduating from Michigan State following a magical Final Four run that unfortunately fell short to Texas Tech. The Spartans were one win away from playing for a national title against a very beatable Virginia team. But we won’t get into that.
This week, he signed a contract with Polish club Trefl Sopot and he’s actually going to be teammates with another former Michigan State starter.

Goins will be teaming up with this past season’s starting center in Poland, and it’s probably the perfect spot for him because he’ll have a familiar face (not sure that they’ve ever met, though) to help him adjust to his new home for at least the next year.
Zapala has had a busy offseason himself since leaving Michigan State, earning a spot on the Polish national team ahead of a late-summer international tournament.
The two Spartans will get to learn from each other and feed off each other while trying to lead Trefl Sopot to big things. They will both have some post-Michigan State playing days professional experience by the time they team up, and you know Spartan fans will be checking up on them religiously.
Neither Goins nor Zapala really had NBA opportunities, so this is an ideal situation for both of them, and it’s the first time that I can remember two former MSU players on the same European team.
