The Canadian man convicted of murdering his 9-year-old daughter was sentenced Wednesday morning in Essex County court.

Luciano Frattolin, found guilty on charges of second-degree murder and concealment of a corpse in August in connection with the July 2025 death of his daughter Melina, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison on the murder charge and 1-3 years on the concealment charge. The two sentences will run consecutively.

An Amber Alert was issued in late July 2025 for Melina, who was reported missing by her father. He said she was last seen in the area of I-87 near Exit 22 in Lake George and was possibly taken by men in a white van, according to New York State Police. After authorities identified inconsistencies in Frattolin’s account of events and the timeline he provided, an investigation led to police determining that no abduction had occurred, troopers said.

The girl’s body was later found in a shallow pond in Ticonderoga.
