Kelsey Grammer is headed back to TV. Two decades after Frasier wrapped, the 71-year-old actor will executive produce and star in a new drama series, Pops, for NBC, according to Deadline.

Unlike his iconic sitcom character, Grammer’s new role isn’t a fictional psychiatrist. Instead, he’ll play a real person. Based on Maryland EMT Ed Levien (a.k.a. “Pops”), who became an emergency services volunteer in his 60s after retiring from a career in advertising.

Grammer isn’t the only well-known name to join this new drama. Chicago Med writer/producer Danny Weiss is set to write for the show. Pops is currently in development. NBC has not provided additional information on the rest of the cast, when the show will start filming, or when Pops will air.

While fans of Grammer are waiting for the former Frasier star to return to the small screen, they can watch him in Avengers: Doomsday. He will reprise his role of Dr. Hank McCoy (Beast) in the highly anticipated Marvel film. Avengers: Doomsday will premiere exclusively in theaters on December 18, 2026.

As it turns out, Grammer isn’t the only Frasier alum with a new show in the works at NBC. His on-screen brother, David Hyde Pierce (who played Dr. Niles Crane), has a comedy in development at the network. Per Deadline, Hyde Pierce will star in the yet-unnamed “multi-camera comedy project.”

Veteran sitcom producer and co-creator of NBC’s ’90s hit Caroline in the City, Marco Pennette, will write and co-executive produce (along with Hyde Pierce). While the new series is in development with Universal Television, the company has not provided further information on when it will go into production or debut.
