SACO, Maine — A fisherman reported a great white shark sighting in Saco Bay near Ocean Park (Saco Line) and Goosefare Brook.

Nick Pondant was striper fishing when he saw and filmed the shark.

During his reported sighting, the shark was about 200 feet offshore in relatively shallow waters.

So far this summer, there have been at least six reported shark sightings in Maine with at least one unconfirmed by authorities. Most sightings have been along the southern coast in places like Harpswell, Reid State Park, Scarborough, Old Orchard Beach, and now Saco. Experts told Maine Monitor sightings indicate a healthy, productive ecosystem, though swimmers should avoid proximity to bait.
