Batman is well used to people trying to take him out at this point. After all, in his line of work, it’s only natural that people want to get rid of you. But he’s lasted for 87 years up to this point, and that’s fairly good going. After all that time, he’s never been killed. Bruce Wayne, on the other hand? He’s just a man, after all. And now, someone has decided Bruce Wayne must die. And apparently, he’s going to.
DC Comics has announced that Bruce Wayne will die in the upcoming Batman #15, written by Matt Fraction with artwork by Jorge Jiménez. The issue, scheduled for November 4, 2026, will see six assassins descend upon Gotham City with one objective: murder the billionaire during a major public event.
Nothing is slowing down for the Caped Crusader in the aftermath of Bad Seeds as six assassins descend on Gotham with one target in their sights: billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne. It’s all going down at El Grande Gala Enmascarado, and by the end of the night, Bruce Wayne will die before the eyes of the world, giving Batman a very unique case to solve. Speaking to Forbes at New York Comic Con, Fraction confirmed that the assassination will take place in the issue, although he carefully avoided revealing how Batman could possibly investigate the murder of his own alter ego. He said:
“I can absolutely guarantee you that in Batman #15, you are going to see Bruce Wayne get shot, and Batman will need to solve it. Neat trick. Good work if you can get it.”
‘The Assassination of Bruce Wayne’ Is For Everyone
Fraction admitted that he was having a great time on this current run, too. He admitted the challenge of making sure that the stories are accessible for all parties, rather than die-hard fans who want it to follow from the very start:
“This is the most fun I’ve had writing corporate superhero comics! I don’t want to undo anything that’s come before. But part of the challenge I laid out for myself is that I want these stories to be as self-contained as they can be. I don’t want people to feel like they’re not getting part of the story because there’s something they didn’t read. No one could possibly read all the Batman comics in the world!”
