Irish comedian Joanne McNally received a standing ovation as she made her US TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The 43-year-old had the audience in stitches with her stand-up routine about dating, relationships and the realities of life as a single woman over 40.

And it wasn’t just the audience who were impressed. Host Jimmy Fallon embraced McNally at the end of her routine, exclaiming: “Come on! What are you talking about? That’s awesome! That’s how you do it!”

As the audience rose to its feet in the applause, Fallon added: “Look at that – standing O!”

McNally appeared on the show ahead of filming her upcoming Netflix comedy special, Pinotphile, at New York’s Town Hall on 7 November as part of the New York Comedy Festival.

Born in Roscommon and raised in Dublin, McNally also co-hosts the hit podcast My Therapist Ghosted Me, with Vogue Williams.

The pair have taken the award-winning podcast on tour, performing sold-out live shows around the world.

McNally is currently appearing on BBC’s Celebrity Traitors, where her questionable guesses about the identities of the Traitors have provided plenty of amusement for viewers and fellow contestants alike.

She is due to perform her Pinotphile show to Dublin’s 3Arena for four nights in December, having become the first Irish comedian to sell out three dates at the venue.

Tickets are still available for the 11 December show.
