Wednesday also marks Damian Lillard’s return to Portland for the regular season as he works his way back from an injury in 2025.
The Blazers also enter the season with a new coach, Micah Nori, and a changed roster that includes point guard Ja Morant.
As the excitement builds, questions remain about the team’s long-term future in Portland amid a continued search to secure funding for a Moda Center renovation.
City council will soon vote to appoint three people to oversee the renovation project; City Administrator Raymond Lee, Building Official Natalie Didion, and Deputy Budget Director Brian Connell. The city vote would not commit any funding.

Multnomah County joined the oversight effort earlier this month.
If a long-term agreement is reached, the city and county would take final funding votes later this year.
