The Quail Golf Course’s major renovations promise improved play and economic benefits for Midland, addressing a local shortage and boosting community engagement.
MIDLAND, Texas — The Quail Golf Course has undergone major renovations to help it last for years to come.
The project has been in the works for about a year. Today, city leaders gathered at the newly renovated course for its ribbon-cutting and were excited to share updates.
“We’ve learned that there is really a shortage of opportunities for golfers in Midland. The newly renovated courses are going to provide more opportunities,” said Midland Mayor Lori Blong

The improvements start right near the first tee, with a brand-new putting green.
The renovations include refurbishing all greens and bunkers, regrassing fairways, adding new tee boxes, and upgrading the tenth hole from a par-3 to a par-4.
To keep the grass green, the club added a new irrigation and RO system to improve water quality.
Golf Course Architect Trey Kemp, who designed the course, said, “The new irrigation system should last 40…50 years. The greens are the same way. They have a lifespan of 25 to 30 years, so we should have another good 30 years out of that… It’s going to improve the playing quality and everything.”
Councilwoman-At-Large Robin Poole says the council wanted a “state-of-the-art golf course” for the community.
The upgrades enhance golfers’ experience, but they can also bring people to the course.
“Making that investment not only is going to benefit those that play golf as a pastime, but it does bring a lot of dollars in the world of philanthropy here, “ said Poole. “There are so many tournaments that occur here every year, and those are a primary moneymaker for a lot of the nonprofits here in Midland.”
The golf course is expected to open to the public on Oct. 30th, 2026.
