The new owner of a now closed Myrtle Beach buffet has shared plans for the building as well as turning a neighboring mini golf course into a restaurant.
Steve Ghidella purchased the building that housed Magnolia’s at 26th Restaurant & Conference Center a year ago with plans to turn it into a beachwear shop. But the building is located near the former Sea Dip Inn, which is currently being demolished to make way for a 400-unit Drury Inn at 2608 N. Ocean Blvd. The Sea Dip was in business for 54 years.
Ghidella said because of the expected construction that will come with the hotel, the new plan is “to leave (the building) be and wait for the hotel” to be built.
What will take the place of golf course?
While the Magnolia’s building may sit empty for a while, Ghidella is moving forward with plans to build a restaurant and bar on the location that is now Lost Mine Miniature Golf.
The mini golf course at 2601 N. Ocean Blvd. neighbors the former Magnolia’s.
Ghidella, who owns several properties along the Grand Strand, including RipTydz in Myrtle Beach and Dead Dog Saloon in Murrells Inlet, said that he plans to operate the mini golf course for another season before closing it.
“I’m trying to go full steam on the golf course side,” Ghidella said.
At this time, he doesn’t have a concept in mind for the restaurant, which is expected to be built some time in 2028.
Where will new Magnolia’s be?
Although Ghidella bought the building that housed Magnolia’s, the name will remain with the Anderson family.
Magnolia’s at 26th operated for more than 20 years before closing last month.
The family has plans to open Magnolia’s Cafe in the fall at 6017 Highway 701 North in Conway, Michelle Sturzenbecker, daughter of founder Bobby Anderson, told The Sun News in a previous article.
