Republican leaders rallied conservative voters in Texas on Saturday, warning that the state’s high-stakes U.S. Senate race serves as the ultimate national firewall against a far-left takeover in Washington.
Speaking alongside Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Republican Sen. Ted Cruz laid out the stark stakes facing the nation.
“I have never been more concerned. I’ve never been more frightened by an election in Texas and an election nationally,” Cruz said, arguing the political realignment across the aisle has shifted the fundamental debate in American politics.
“This is no longer a battle between left and right. This is not a battle between liberal and conservative. This is a battle between sane and crazy,” Cruz said.
Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., added that if President Donald Trump “doesn’t get Ken Paxton, he probably won’t have a Republican majority.”
“He won’t be able to have conservative judges. He won’t be able to protect Texas from the likes of Schumer and for that matter, Elizabeth Warren,” Issa said.
Paxton also bashed his Democratic opponent, Texas State Representative James Talarico, as a radical Democrat in the fashion of New York’s Democratic Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y.
“No matter how many commercials he runs lying about his record, James Talarico is a Democratic Socialist, just like AOC, and just like the New York mayor Mamdani,” Paxton said.
“As a matter of fact, in his own words, Talarico called Mamdani a template for future American politicians. This is a guy from Texas, supposedly. Darrell, California already has two senators. They don’t need a third. You all agree this guy is that,” Paxton added.
Cruz warned that a Democratic-controlled Senate led by Chuck Schumer would lead to complete legislative gridlock, a halt on judicial and cabinet confirmations, and a “circus of nonstop subpoenas and investigations” targeting the administration.
“If we lose Texas, we lose America. That’s what we’re fighting for,” Paxton said, urging voters not to wake up after the election to find “a Marxist, a guy that says we need to dismantle capitalism as our U.S. senator from Texas.”
