ROCHESTER — Jeanne and Steve Wilson said they have heard the same review time and time again — that their home, which they have opened up to the public as an Airbnb for the past four years, is simply peaceful.

“It’s funny, because they’ll go, ‘I can’t quite figure out what’s going on here,’” Jeanne said of her guests. “‘Maybe it’s the bed. Can you send us the model of the mattress?’”

“They’re all saying it must be the furniture,” she added. “Well, it’s really the peace that the house brings.”

The house at 1881 65th St. NE has

garnered more than 200 reviews and boasts an average rating of 4.98 stars out of 5 on Airbnb.com.

The Wilsons have deemed the condo, complete with a separate entrance, the “Cedar Loft” after the home’s cedar siding.

The home is located on a wooded 4-acre lot and is about a 10-minute drive from downtown Rochester.

“A lot of people drive back here and say, I didn’t even realize this was here,” Steve said. “So, you have your own little haven.”

The Wilsons have lived in the home for the past 19 years.

“For me, I loved it because it was unique,” Jeanne said. “It wasn’t like any of the other houses we had looked at.”

The home is now

listed for sale at $1,134,300.

Designed in the style of Frank Lloyd Wright, the four-bedroom, four-bathroom home “is a house for living,” Steve said.

“It’s very intentional about the architectural design,” he added. “Every corner of the house has places to sit outside.”

A limestone motif wraps around the long, linear house and continues inside with a limestone wall in the living room. A floating staircase connects the first floor to the second. On the second floor, exposed wood beams run along the slanted ceiling.

The Wilsons have also incorporated their own sustainable lifestyle into the home. More than $100,000 has been invested in the utility room and mechanical updates, like the house’s geothermal heating and cooling system.

“We have incorporated a lot of sustainable living elements where we raise a lot of our own food,” Steve said. “There hasn’t been any chemicals on the place for probably about four years.”

Jeanne said that she has spent most of her time in the house in the kitchen, canning, freezing and preparing food. That kitchen comes with a large center island and a sunroom nook off to the side that overlooks the gardens.

The gardens — which the Wilsons use to grow their food — black walnut, spruce and maple trees and a hiking trail fill the home’s four-acre lot.

In the primary bathroom are a Jacuzzi tub and a sauna.

Also on the property is a barn that could be used for storage or as a workshop.

The Wilsons are looking to move to Wabasha County to be closer to their two grown children. They are also looking forward to having more room to grow their gardens.
