Trail Blazers vs. Lakers preview, players to watch

The Lakers lost LeBron James, but had Luka Doncic waiting in the wings to be their franchise superstar, and so far this season, he’s lived up to the billing. Doncic is the second-best scorer in the league through his first three outings, averaging more than 34 points a game. He’s also one of the best passers and three-point shooters in the NBA so far this year. He’s taken command of this team, but he’ll have to have another dynamite night if the Lakers hope to remain unbeaten.

They face a Portland squad reinvigorated by the arrival of dynamic guard Ja Morant, who leads the team in assists, while Damian Lillard is back from injury and back to leading the team in scoring. Plus, you’ve got All-Star Deni Avdija pulling down 8.5 rebounds a game.

These are the two top-scoring offenses in the NBA through the first week of the season, with each averaging more than 120 points, so expect a lot of shots to go up. So the difference-maker may very well be which team defends better.
