TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — A pet toucan that escaped its home nearly three weeks ago continues to roam free across the eastside of Tucson.

On Oct. 9, Sid the Collared Aracari Toucan flew away from its owner and has been spotted regularly near the area of Harrison and Old Spanish Trail since he left his home, according to Sonoran Wildlife Services. The organization continues getting reports from residents who see Sid stopping by their yards for food and water, but he hasn’t been captured yet.

Sonoran Wildlife Services said the owner is offering a reward for Sid’s safe return. The organization continues receiving location updates from residents who spot the bird in their yards.

Anyone who sees Sid should try to capture him if it’s safe to do so. “Long handled nets, even a pool net would work or towel if close enough,” Sonoran Wildlife Services said. “Their beaks can give a good pinch but can’t do real damage.”

Another capture method involves creating a trail of fruit leading into a kennel or crate. The toucan likes berries, bananas and other fruits treats.
