Cincinnati’s “Star 93.3” WAKW has launched its annual Christmas music programming, switching to an all-Christmas format at midnight Nov. 1.
The Pillar Media station is airing holiday favorites around the clock, mixing traditional selections from Andy Williams and Frank Sinatra with contemporary Christmas hits from Mariah Carey and Pentatonix.
The playlist includes Williams’ “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” Sinatra’s “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and Pentatonix’ “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.”
“Over the years, the arrival of Cincinnati’s Christmas STAR has become a beloved tradition for our listeners,” said Pillar Media Chief Programming Officer Matt Stockman. “We’re thrilled to take part in the unofficial kick-off of the holiday season.”
STAR 93.3 midday personality Kristen James says listeners have been requesting Christmas music well before the station’s annual switch.
“Christmas is such a joyful time for so many people who listen to STAR. We start getting requests for Christmas music in July!” James said. “So, to be able to get the season started a little early for those who enjoy it, and to have the opportunity to brighten their day with holiday tunes they love, is such a blessing.”
The station’s Nov. 1 launch puts STAR 93.3 among the early broadcasters beginning their holiday music programming as the Christmas season gets underway.
