Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov has been unbeatable to begin the season, and the NHL is recognizing his stellar start.
Kochetkov was named the league’s Third Star for October on Sunday, the same day he became just the third goalie in NHL history to start a season 10-0 with a 7-0 shutout of the Winnipeg Jets.
The 27-year-old went 9-0-0 in October, establishing the longest season-opening winning streak in franchise history. He also became the third goaltender in Hurricanes franchise history to record at least nine wins in a single calendar month.
Through Sunday, Kochetkov has posted a 1.49 goals-against average, a .929 save percentage and two shutouts.
His success comes after an injury-plagued 2025-26 season that included hip surgery.
Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid earned First Star honors for October, while Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov was named Second Star.
Kochetkov previously earned NHL Rookie of the Month honors in December 2022 and February 2024.
