Ugh, I have watched a video, and now I am soooo sad because my dog does not have a raccoon friend! How does a dog go about getting a raccoon friend? How did *this* dog get this raccoon friend? I have so many questions.
This beautiful Great Pyrenees is enjoying some outdoor time when, like something straight out of a Disney movie, the cutest little raccoon ever comes running and starts throwing the ultra-smack-down wrestling moves on the pup. They are having so much fun, it’s ridiculous, and I could literally watch them all day.
Before we all get carried away and start trying to summon raccoons to our backyards, we should keep in mind that raccoons can potentially be quite dangerous to other animals.
Common Raccoon Diseases

So, what diseases can a raccoon transmit to your pup? Plenty! Giardia, which is transmitted through feces, is highly contagious, and very difficult to get rid of. Distemper is another risk. Leptospirosis, a bacterium found in raccoon urine that contaminates objects, soil, and water sources, can cause all sorts of problems such as kidney disease, liver failure, and even death. There’s also salmonella, raccoon roundworm and rabies. Long story short? You probably shouldn’t let a raccoon play with your pet, no matter how cute those two look together.
Upon further examination of this videographer’s TikTok, it seems as though she might have raised this raccoon from a baby, and the animal has probably been thoroughly vetted prior to interacting with her pup.
One thing’s for sure, they are are adorable together, and they’re making everyone smile!
