HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Demolition of the historic Kirby Mansion resumed on Monday after a halt over permits on Friday.
The video above is from a previous report.
Last week, the mansion in the South End neighborhood was partially demolished until neighbor James Fuller noticed the crane tearing at the building.
Fuller said several others called the city to stop the work, leading a city inspector to “red-tag” the building and cite a lack of a demolition permit. However, another neighbor said the current owner did have a permit, which allowed for the demolition to continue

Activists said it was a historic landmark where several icons and world leaders, including presidents George H.W. Bush and Franklin D. Roosevelt had visited. Preservationists held a vigil the night before, organized by Mister McKinney’s Historic Houston, to potentially save the 19th-century building.
ABC13 sent a photographer to the mansion on Monday, where they described the demolition scene as “not much left.”
ABC13 attempted to reach the property owner to discuss the plans for the building, but has not yet received a response.
