John Goodman has opened up about his weight loss journey.
“My body’s too messed up losing all this weight,” he said.
Goodman underwent stomach surgery and is now focusing on building strength as he adjusts to his changed body.
Actor John Goodman is opening up about his experience following a dramatic 200-pound weight loss. The 74-year-old explained that he is still “getting used to” his changed body.
In fact, following his weight loss, he almost turned down his role in Righteous Gemstones.
“I thought I was going to have to be naked in it and I said, ‘I don’t know. My body’s too messed up losing all this weight,'” Goodman explained on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast.

“I’m still trying to get used to my face,” he added. “It’s weird. I think of myself as one way and then I look at myself, ‘Oh, wow!'”
“It’s strange. It’s fun to get used to,” he reflected. “There’s a lot of stuff I’m getting used to.”
In another recent interview, Goodman explained how he gained weight amid an addiction to alcohol in the 2000s. “I’d lose 60 pounds in a summer, gain it all back. 70 pounds, 80 pounds,” Goodman told The New Yorker. “And that got tiring.”

Although Goodman went sober in 2007, he continued to struggle with eating healthily. As he put it, he was “eating alcoholically,” and he eventually reached around 400 pounds. “I took steps so I wouldn’t have to do that anymore,” Goodman continued.
Goodman underwent stomach surgery and is now adjusting to his new body.
“Basically, building up the core, balance, strength training, stuff like that, so I don’t fall down—which I did as soon as I got back to London from Christmas break,” Goodman explained. “I came down parallel to the ground, on my hip, and fractured it.”
