For the first time ever, a selection of 26 remarkable objects from the Louvre museum’s renowned collection of Islamic art has arrived in the United States.

On view through Jan. 18 at the National Museum of Asian Art, “From the Louvre: Masterpieces of Islamic Art” includes vessels both ceremonial and utilitarian, in jade, crystal, glass, ceramic and precious metals; ornamental animal figures of brass and bronze; architectural fixtures; elaborate pen cases and a dagger; and an oil-on-canvas portrait of a Persian king, gifted to Napoleon in 1807.
