North Florida men’s basketball head coach Bobby Kennen finalized the staff with the additions of assistant coaches Bob Marlin and Carter Hendricksen on Monday.
“We’re elated to welcome Bob Marlin to our staff,” Kennen said. “Coach Marlin adds a wealth of experience and sustained championship success to our program. He’s a high-character leader with a varied skill set that will blend effortlessly with our staff. His addition signifies our commitment to strengthening and elevating every aspect of our program.”
Marlin joins North Florida after he led Louisiana to a 269-198 record in 15 seasons. He is the winningest coach in Sun Belt Conference history with 151 wins. He totaled five postseason appearances, which included 2014 and 2023 NCAA Tournament berths, and three Sun Belt Conference titles at the helm. The 2018 Sun Belt Coach of the Year, Marlin led Louisiana to its two winningest seasons in program history, which included a program-record 27 wins in 2017-18, and he eclipsed the 20-win mark five times with a 20-win average from 2013-23.
Prior to Louisiana, Marlin became the winningest coach in Sam Houston State program history and compiled a 225-131 record that included winning records in 10 of the 12 seasons. The winningest coach in the Southland Conference during his tenure, he won 20 or more games six times and three Southland Regular Season and two Southland Tournament tities with appearances to the 2003 and 2010 NCAA Tournament. He was named the Southland Conference Coach of the Year three times and was the Southland Coach of the Decade. He has amassed 494 Division I wins and coached 823 Division I games in his career.
Marlin led Pensacola Junior College and posted a 123-35 record in five seasons. He led Pensacola to a 1993 NJCAA National Championship and was named 1993 NJCAA National Coach of the Year. He was honored as the 1993 NABC, Basketball Times, Basketball Weekly Coach of the Year, and Region 8 Coach of the Year. Marlin was inducted into the Florida Junior College Hall of Fame in 2007 and the inaugural PSC Hall of Fame in 2019.
He has also served on staffs at Alabama, Marshall, Houston Baptist and Northeast Louisiana.
“We’re excited to have Carter Hendricksen complete our staff,” Kennen added. “Everything that made him one of the best players in program history will make him a great coach. He has an undeniable work ethic and daily commitment to growth. Those qualities paired with a passion for the game and our program will provide an incredible foundation as he mentors current and future Ospreys.”
A three-time All-ASUN selection, Hendricksen was one of the most decorated players in program history from 2018-23. He remains tied for the most games played in program history at 135 and is second with 1,651 career points. He is top-five in program history in games played, points, field goals made, three-point field goals, free throws made, rebounds and minutes. He was named 2020-21 First Team All-ASUN, 2019-20 and 2022-23 Second Team All-ASUN and 2020-21 ASUN Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Hendricksen is one of five Ospreys to reach 1,500 points and one of four to total 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 200 assists in his career.
