The Durham City Council has approved a new Wi-Fi program called MiFi, which gives certain people internet hot spots for free.
The program, a collaboration between the city and the county, is designated for people who struggle to afford internet.
Applications are available online in Spanish and English. If approved, people will have access to the hotspots as early as September.
Only one application can be submitted per household, and applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older. Qualification will be based on income limitations or income-based government assistance.
