After two years of immense success as director of player personnel for Notre Dame women’s basketball, Carlos Knox has been promoted to assistant coach ahead of his third season in South Bend.

In his short time under Karen and Kevin Keyes Family Head Coach Niele Ivey, Knox has been instrumental in the development of multiple Irish posts, including 2025 WNBA Draft selections Liatu King and Maddy Westbeld. Last season, King broke the Notre Dame single-season record for rebounds per game (10.4) and was named to the All-ACC Second Team.

In his first year, his primary pupil, Westbeld, was one of four players in the ACC to average at least 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds, and the latter number was a career-high for the power forward.

Prior to arriving in South Bend, Knox spent nearly a decade working with the Indiana Fever as an interim head coach, assistant coach and player development coach. He helped lead the team to eight consecutive WNBA playoff appearances and was a 2012 WNBA champion. He has worked with many notable players, including former Irish guard Skylar Diggins.

Knox was a two-time NCAA scoring champion, NCAA All-American and NCAA Player of the Year for IUPUI, and the team became a Division I program just after his graduation due in part to Knox’s contributions. After college, Knox played for the Indiana Pacers from 1998-99 and played overseas in Croatia, Germany, Venezuela and Italy. He has served as a head coach in the International Basketball League, Continental Basketball Association and American Basketball Association.
