Carlos Alcaraz was left disappointed after losing the Wimbledon final to Jannik Sinner.

Alcaraz saw his unbeaten Grand Slam final come to an end against Sinner, despite winning the first set of the Wimbledon final.

After the match, Alcaraz revealed why he lost to Sinner in his first defeat against his Italian rival since October 2023.

Alcaraz still had to address Centre Court after losing to Sinner, and now former world number one Andy Roddick has given his verdict on the Spaniard’s behaviour.

When discussing the Wimbledon men’s singles final on his Served with Andy Roddick podcast, the former US Open champion backed Sinner as the favourite in New York.

Roddick also spoke about the rivalry between the top two ranked ATP players, praising them both for their behaviour after the Wimbledon final, particularly highlighting how Alcaraz allowed Sinner to have his moment.

“Sinner is going to be the overwhelming favourite when you get back to a hard court for sure,” said Roddick. “He has been dominant on that surface.

“We said that the whole game, we have talked about it before on the show, is can they steal these titles from the other’s favourite surfaces? Can he steal one on clay at Roland Garros? Can he steal it on grass, which has largely been Carlos’s domain for the last three years?

“He has beaten Novak [Djokovic] for the last two years to kind of take the mantle from him and now Sinner has got in and stole one. Can Carlos go to New York and steal one?

“With all that he has had to go through mentally in the last year, my sigh of relief would have been a lot louder than what Sinner did.

“I mean I would have been screaming to the heavens. A mixture of joy, relief, anger, all of those things. But Sinner is classier than most, I will tell you that!

“So is Carlos Alcaraz. He knew what Jannik went through after Roland Garros. He fully understood. Although he wasn’t happy, I like seeing them converse at the net and the footage of them always being extremely friendly and cordial when they are at the practice courts and they see each other.

“When you hear Darren Cahill talking about the rivalry, when you hear Juan Carlos Ferrero talking about the rivalry, I think everyone fully understands the significance of these two.

“They are the stewards towards the future of our sport along with Iga [Swiatek] and Coco [Gauff] and others but it is just special to watch and I am really happy for Jannik Sinner. Not on the same level at all but I know what it feels like to be close and not get it there. I am happy he had his moment of redemption. I think he goes about it the right way. Carlos Alcaraz is the stud of all studs, just amazing. This won’t be his last Wimbledon final and he has not won his last Wimbledon title either.”

Roddick is not the only person to praise the Spaniard for his conduct, with Marion Bartoli also revealing what Alcaraz did to Sinner after losing the Wimbledon final.

Jannik Sinner extends his lead at the top of the ATP rankings over Carlos Alcaraz

After world number one Sinner won Wimbledon for the first time in his career, he has extended his lead over Alcaraz to 3430 ranking points.

However, Sinner will be under big pressure to defend lots of ranking points over the North American hard court swing.

After Sinner won the US Open and Cincinnati Masters last year, he has 3140 more ranking points to defend than Alcaraz, who struggled during this part of the season in 2024.

Despite Sinner currently being top of the ATP rankings by some distance, it is Alcaraz who leads the race to the ATP Finals and has actually already qualified.

Alcaraz has earned 7540 ranking points so far in 2025, while Sinner is currently in second on 6000.

There is an even bigger gap between Sinner and third-placed Novak Djokovic, who has earned 3380 ranking points in 2025.
