Chelsea youngster Zak Sturge spent the second half of last season on loan at Millwall, and he’s now returned to them not just for the full season coming up, but for the many seasons ahead after that as he’s signed a “long-term” contract with the Championship outfit.
Strangely, the exact length of the contract has not been disclosed by Millwall. Less strangely, they also did not confirm how much they’re paying in terms of a transfer fee.
Sturge joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion back in 2022, for what turned out to be a tribunal-set £900k (plus potential add-ons to take that up to £3.4, which surely have not been met). Brighton retained a 20 per cent sell-on as well, so they will want to know the final numbers in this transfer, too.
The 21-year-old left back made just five appearances for Millwall last season, backing up the veteran Joe Bryan, but they must’ve liked what they saw.
“After three years [at Chelsea FC] it’s time for me to say goodbye. I want to thank the club, the fans, and everyone who has supported me during my time here. I’ve learnt so much and I’m grateful for the memories I’ve made here, I wish everyone at the club the best for the future.”
